Our boat 'Marcella' was named after Sinéad Doody's mother. Marcella was an inspiration to breast cancer survivors and this motivated the founding members to set up Déise Buddies. The boat was donated by the Nore Paddlers and hit the water on the 9th of Decmeber 2017. The naming ceremony took place on the 17th of December 2017 followed by the clubs first paddle on the River Suir.

With our patron, Vicky Phelan, on World Cancer Day, 2019. Déise Buddies members gathered in University College Dublin in support of Mount Sion Choir and The Solas Men's Choir "connecting cancer to choir" (@mountsionchoir, 2019).

We try not to take ourselves too seriously. Although we gather for sporting activities it is also important to engage in social occassions. We're a group of fun-loving and outgoing ladies. We're not exclusively a group for women. We are a group for those who have had cancer or who have an immediate family member with or survived breast cancer.
